URBAN
PREPAREDNESS
FIELD GUIDE
Practical Awareness, Safety, and Confidence for Everyday Civilians.
Stay aware, prepared, and confident in the modern city — built on more than a decade of research, not on fear.
The Standard We Hold
Not survivalism.
Not alarmism.
This book exists to close one gap — between what most people know about staying safe, and what the evidence says they should.
What it isn't
No wilderness protocols, no grid-down prepping, no ideology — and no demand for constant vigilance or manufactured fear.
What it is
A research-grounded field guide that scales preparation to real, everyday risk and turns awareness into calm, usable confidence — for ordinary urban and suburban life.
The UTC Framework
Three pillars carry the whole system.
Simple enough to remember. Strong enough to rely on when it matters most.
Pillar 01
Awareness over Anxiety
Anxiety scatters attention and wears you down. Trained awareness is calm, efficient, and sustainable — accurate information without the alarm.
Pillar 02
Preparation over Panic
Panic is the absence of a plan. A few rehearsed responses turn a frozen moment into a decided one — no equipment required.
Pillar 03
Confidence over Confusion
Confusion is dangerous under stress. Knowing what to do — and doing it without hesitation — is what actually changes outcomes.
Inside the Field Guide

Meet the Author
Brad Crews
President & CEO · Urban Tactical Concepts
Brad Crews teaches practical awareness, preparedness, and personal safety for urban and suburban life. His background includes seven years with the Arlington, Texas Police Department — in patrol and as an undercover narcotics detective — and six years as a Special Agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
His specialized training spans police tactics, firearms instruction, defensive tactics, surveillance and counter-surveillance, crime scene investigation, use-of-force decision-making, de-escalation, and protective service operations. In the Field Guide, he translates that experience into clear, everyday habits — helping readers become more aware, more prepared, and more confident without becoming fearful or paranoid.
Preparedness is not about fear. It is about being ready when life doesn't go to plan.
